Adventures in Public Transport, Part XXIV

I bought a Saveaway ticket today and went wherever the wind took me. Turns out I’m too heavy to be taken anywhere by the wind, so I gave up on that and got on a train instead.

I didn’t take my camera with me, because I didn’t think there’d be anything worth photographing (you’ve seen one 508, you’ve seen them all). As I was waiting at Liverpool South Parkway, the Network Rail HST came screaming through — something which definitely would have been worth photographing. Typical.

(by the way, Central Trains’s Desiro units are nice)

I didn’t know 125s came anywhere near Liverpool… I should start hanging out at LSP when I’m next up 😉

The Desiros are alright, but I don’t like them simply because they’ve replaced the Turbostars on the Liverpool-Brum route. That’s the route I invariably take to get to/from Oxford, and I love those green Central Turbostars, so it’s a shame to see them replaced with those grey things.

125s don’t normally come near Liverpool. That’s why I was so miffed that I couldn’t get a picture. To add insult to injury, when I arrived at Lime Street it was sat in platform 9, practically inviting me to take a picture. 🙁

I’ve only been on a Turbostar a couple of times, but my impression is that they are underpowered and very sluggish at accelerating away from stations. Anyway, running a diesel train on a route that is electrified the whole way is just silly.

Prettier than the Desiros? I don’t think so!
